Sara Naveed’s prowess in writing romance has been proven with the popularity of her debut, Our Story Ends Here. With every story she tries to bring something new yet something familiar packed in an uncanny way. Undying Affinity is yet another heartwarming romance by Naveed, published by Penguin India.

The novel follows the love story of Zarish and Ahmar. Their love is that of a rich girl meets a poor guy, well not really a poor but not of the same social status, if you will. Zarish’s father is against this match and acts like a typical father threatening his daughter with dire consequences. Destiny, however, has other plans for them.

Simple yet stylish, this phrase rings true for Sara Naveed’s writing. What she brings forth in her second novel may not be new to Bollywood buffs yet the sincerity with which she weaves this tale melts you.

I love romance genre, and despite having authored a book, I believe I can’t write ever romance solely because when you are writing a romance you need conviction. The readers have to be drawn in slowly into your romance, they have to stay there with the characters and they have to fall in love with it as the climax nears. I can count only a few authors who can do so effortlessly and Sara Naveed is one amongst them. The ease gets the reader hooked. In no time you are drawn in and all you find yourself doing is turning pages for more.

What attracted me more towards this particular romance was that it wasn’t fairytale-ish at all. It was much real and undeniable. You have a cue of the impending hardship but never once did it give way for predictability. It balanced out the feelings. The language, though lucid, evoked emotions and was replete with hatred, love, anxiety, calm, anger like sentiments. The drama too was kept in check. Yes, it did reflect a Bollywood romance but even that wasn’t overdone. The interactions between protagonists and their intimacy was ethereal.

To me, it made me fall in love all over again.

To sum up, I would recommend this novel to anyone and everyone who wants to read a feel good, heart-melting romance. I guess, a perfect read for Valentine’s.
