I am not an action movie/book buff but sometimes some reads are a breather. Sniper’s Eye by Mainak Dhar is one such read.

The novel follows the story of Aadi and ex army officer who has left his past behind and embraced the corporate culture. However, his past comes chasing him when he encounters a murder while getting out of a plush mall of Mumbai. This murder leads him to the dark underbelly of drug mafia which has been the major reason behind these terror attacks.

I loved how the book is narrated. The book unfolds slowly taking us into it’s warm hug. It is thrilling and the suspense keeps us hooked to tee. The political tensions that keep brewing between India and Pak are explored brilliantly in the novel. As also the world of terrorist and terrorism is closely presented. I kept getting the feels of having read Zaidi or even Sacred Games. But it was totally a refreshing take on the terrorism and thriller.

At one point the author gets us thinking by presenting terrorist from a humanitarian perspective. And he does so cleanly and convincingly. The unnecessary drama is cut off and the dialogues are dexterously penned. These dialogues are no where cliché but keep giving a feel of a Bollywood blockbuster. The protagonist’s character is well brought forth as are the other essential characters. Within the circumference of limited characters the author weaves an uber intriguing plot.

It is complicated and yet it brings out certain facts along with it. Remember, during 26/11 terror strikes, people kept smelling smoke believing that someone big was involved in bringing these terrorist to the shores of Mumbai? The author here explores such beliefs and brings out an enthralling tale.

Another aspect that I loved in this book was how the action sequences didn’t bore me. It was smartly penned avoiding cliches and drama.

Sniper’s Eye by Mainak Dhar is the first in 7even series.

Overall, the books was unputdownable, page turner for me, spiced up well with thriller. Please make sure you pick it up.
