Kaalkoot – The Lost Himalayan Secret by S. Venkatesh, I picked up this book solely because of it’s name. And what a book!
The book follows the story of a secret which is guarded for decades by a man called Yogyaveer. This secret is kept safe in the womb of Himalaya. This secret will avert a global catastrophe caused by the deadliest biological weapon ever. This weapon is Kaalkoot discovered from the great Samudra Manthan, the churning of the ocean. And an intelligent force of Indians comes together to unveil the antidote for this poison. How they do it, forms the rest of the story.
Let me tell you, I have tried to simplify a very complicated plot. I hope I have done justice there.
The book is very well written. The book is smartly penned because it never once losses it’s pace. It is fast paced thriller and keeps you guessing. When I arrived at the climax I was literally bitting my nails to know what would the outcome be of such a treacherous trek. This book turned out to be an “unputdownable read.”
The writing is simple but gave me the feels of reading an “Ashwin Sanghi”. The story spans from Mumbai to Delhi to Kolkata to Gangtok and makes the best out of it’s settings. Infact settings add a dimension to the story, a thing which lacks in most novels these days. It is well-researched and the author hasn’t has reigned his imagination which makes it all the more appealing!
Overall, I think this book was a delightful read. If you like mythological fiction this book is for you. If you like to curl up with a good thriller then this is the book for you.

It sounds really interesting the way you have put it. Mythological fiction is a tricky thing and I love to read it as I am curious to know the extent of the author’s imagination.
