Holly Smale is an international bestselling author. Her writing style has put a spell on the readers with her The Geek Girl series. I have always wanted to read that series but I happened to pick up her next The Valentines series only recently. Published by HarperCollins India, this book is over 400 pages and a complete joyride.

The novel follows the story of Hope Valentine. She is a teenager born in famous Hollywood family of Valentines. She is last of the four siblings and extremely dreamy eyed. She is on a quest to find the love of her life and she will cross the continents to go meet the hero of her love story.

The book is hilarious and quite a relaxing read. It has been ages since I read a good chicklit. I loved the narrative style of the author. There are imaginary friends and imaginary scenes going on in the protagonist’s mind which makes it quite appealing. The character of Hope has been homeschooled and so she isn’t quite adept in English. The puns that author uses throughout the novel to add a dimension to this character is sure to tickle your funny bone. The novel is written in first person perspective.

Hope has a vision, a sense of imagination which makes her the most lovable character, according to me. Though the novel is funny yet it does show the dark side of the film world. Hope has no one to talk to so she talks to her imaginary friends. She even imagines talking to her siblings and that kinda gets you. You feel sorry for this character but at the same time you see this character so strong headed and resolute that you cannot help falling in love with her.

This book is more about the character of Hope, I feel, and should be rightly so. Never does Hope falter to entertain you. Holly Smale, take a bow. What a beautiful character you have brought to life. At the end of the day, we all do tend to act like Hope sometimes.

Would I recommend this novel? Definitely! It is an unputdownable read.

Go pack Happy Girl Lucky by Holly Smale for a nice long vacation. It gives you the right beachy read feels.
