Often when I pick up childrens books I think about the story and the lesson the story will leave behind for my kid. Recently I happened to come across the book In my heart by Nandana Dev Sen, published by Puffin Books.
The book follows the story of a toddler, Mia, who has been told that she is born out of the hearts of her Mumma and Papa. Soon when she finds her bestfriend, Neel’s mother pregnant, she questions her parents if she too has a tummy mummy. An extremely innocent yet pathbreaking question is dealt with in this story.
The story is presented with simplicity and it easily makes a place for itself “In my heart.” The underlying maturity makes this read all the more heartwarming. The illustrations done by Ruchi Mhasane add a unique touch to the story.
Coming to my two-year-old’s reaction to the story. She loved the character of Mia. And she would tell me to read her the story of Mia again and again.
This story is extremely positive as well as makes one think.
Do I recommend this book to your kids? Definitely! It is easily likable.
Does it have a moral? Yes, it does and you will certainly love it too.
