The book follows the story of Eleanor Oliphant. She is an independent working woman who likes to wear same clothes to work everyday. She eats same meal and solves crosswords everyday. Her routine is fixed. Her social life is nil and her past is haunting.

Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine is presented in first person narrative. There are three main characters we see in this novel, namely, Eleanor, Raymond and Mummy. Other characters though small yet make an impact on Eleanor’s life. The book is bildungsroman, we see Eleanor grow as a human. The book boasts of themes of friendship, loneliness, self love and mental health. The language is lucid and the writing style is very matter-of-fact.

I could relate to the character of Eleanor on some levels. It is closer to reality and an affable character. I loved reading about Eleanor and Raymond’s relationship. It is strong and mature. Raymond is yet another character you will fall in love with. He is easily endearing and he helps Eleanor deal with her demons. I found myself visualizing Jack Black portraying Raymond on 70 mm.

The book is easily lovable and emotional on some levels. Because it is written in a practical manner it evokes laugh and it leaves you stunned as well. It is unpredictable and keeps you hooked. It shows us the monotonous life, superficial world created by social media and lack of empathy. Reading this novel was a beautiful experience which must not be missed. It is story you haven’t read before.

Overall, Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine by Gail Honeyman, is a simplistically told pleasant tale. It is funny and positive. And an unputdownable read.
