Often we miss out on our favorite shows and don’t get enough time to catch up on the content. But Epic channel in collaboration with Rupa publications recently released 3 of its popular infotainment shows in book formats. One of these books is Sharanam with Juhi Chawla.
The book consists of 19 stories of faith showcasing some of the most prominent pilgrim places of the nation. The book is a short read of over a 100 pages and can be read in a day or two. The amount of information that each chapter gives is brilliant. The language used is simple and understandable. But I felt like the translation was a tad verbatim. What I was reading wasn’t a narrative but a script. Though the book is filled with a lot of information yet the expert opinion or the opinions of the scholars wasn’t seen much in it. The content would have strengthened had there been a few expert opinions thrown in. Usually the shows on Epics have expert opinions and perhaps, that why this expectation. Another point worth mentioning here is that this book could have had the pics of the pilgrim places or of the deities.
Coming to my experience…
Despite these flaws, I really liked reading this book. The stories of the devotees and the pilgrim places literally gave me gooseflesh. There were positive vibes that this book was emanating. This sojourn was like reigniting or rejuvenating faith, for me. And when I finished this book I wanted to read more. And more about other religions as well. India is a country where you will find faith stories in every nook and corner and so I hope this book does have a sequel to it.
Overall, if you like reading spiritual content and if you are inquisitive to know about the history and mythology behind some of the well known pilgrim places of India then you must surely pick up this book.
