For an English debut, author Chaitanya Salvi, does a wonderful job with his book The return journey.

The book follows the story of a couple, Ishita and Viraj. They are madly in love with each other but what comes in their way is their stars. It is predicted that because of the Mrutyu Shadashtak Yog in their kundali, Viraj will die early. And soon their fears come true when Viraj is diagnosed with a rare disease. But what keeps this atheist of astrology going is his faith in Lord Ganesha. Will this couple beat death or is there something for us to learn from Ishita and Viraj’s journey?

The return journey is a comprehensible read penned in quite colloquial language. The book is a simplistically narrated story that carries it’s sparkle till the end. Initially when I started reading this book, I felt like the story lacks description. And while that was true in the beginning yet as the story progressed, the descriptions became lucid and alive. There were fluctuations in the tenses throughout and that was a tad jarring. But the book didn’t let go of the emotional quotient. The chapters kept rolling you into the lives of the character, making this one a quick read.

The author mingles fantasy and spirituality in this book and the epiphanies are worth waiting for. The start was a bit filmy but the story was quite unpredictable. What I loved the most about this book is the climax.

With better editing, this story is sure win the hearts of the readers.
