1. This story is unique and focuses on the postive. What inspired you to write this story?

Over the years, various incidents, events, experiences that I felt as relevant, registered in my subconscious mind. While I would recall ones relevant to that particular time, I realised, weaving them together into an interesting story, would find interest amongst like minded people. However, the inertia of having to work on the development of the story, kept me away from penning my latent thoughts.

An extended stay in Boston, with a lot of free time, had me digging deep into the archives of my mind and capturing the deep thoughts in my i-pad. Subsequent travels had me register interesting aspects of the places and people that I came in touch with and helped grow the contents. Periodic revisiting of all that I had captured, helped me overcome the barriers of resistance and commence work on a potential novel.

As far as the positivity of the novel, it is strongly influenced by the orientation of my mentors, that influenced my development. I believe there are always two aspects to any issue. For example, while we grapple with the current pandemic and feel diffident, we miss out on a positive aspect i.e. the significant enhancement of hygiene standards all around, the social distancing norms, the prudence in our spendings and the disciplining of our overall lifestyle!

2. ‎Any incident in particular that is been recreated from real life?

The writing, as explained above, is significantly influenced by all that I have experienced in my lifetime. The major characters, for example, are derived from some of those who have had a deep impact on me, during my growing up years. Some real life incidents have been featured in the story, however, they have been suitably moderated to suit the narration.

3. ‎How long did it take to complete this novel? How many edits did it go through?

It has taken around 3 years for the completion of this novel. I had, for significant parts of this period, frozen work on the novel for various reasons. So based on involved writing, it would have taken upto 2 years! The flow was paced and steady. Hence ‘rewriting’ was never resorted to. However, based on introspection, I did add some chapters in-between, to provide a greater feel of certain characters.

4. You have managed to put together an intricately detailed and well researched novel. Tell us about your research process.

Most of what has been stated, are information that is factual. I resorted to both, primary research through actual visits/interactions as well secondary research for authenticity of particularly, data on places and people.

5. ‎What is your writing schedule like? How many hours do you put into writing?

The writing intensity varied, involved/ intensive writing when on a holiday and sporadic/ staggered writing in-between other assignments.

8. ‎How do you escape writer’s block?

At the cost of sounding presumptuous, I did not experience the inertia related to ‘writer’s block’. It is possibly because of my mining into the experiences, events and occurrences of the past, that remain vivid in memory even now! Further, the practice of mediation is extremely helpful and I am a regular at it.

#BookReview ⁣ ⁣ Every new experience, is an opportunity for us to embrace, learn from and add to our perspective. ⁣ –⁣ A window into spirituality that's what the book Boston Brahmin by Kannan Srinivasan is. ⁣ ⁣ The book follows the story of Jai. He is a young spiritual seeker who is looking for answers to the bigger questions of his life. His perspective has always been that of a philosopher because of the teachings of his spiritual Guru. Under the tutelage and guidance of his Guru Jai overcomes the many hurdles of his life. Walking through the problems that come in his college life, work life and love life and the persistent quest for spiritual upliftment forms the story. ⁣ ⁣ The book is a debut of the author but the narrative has been finely drafted. The plot may seem to skew in places but it ably brings forth the story it is sets out to convey. The language is understandable and quite evolved for a newbie author. With a linear narrative and even pace the author slowly takes us into this spiritual quest. The book is peppered with philosophical quotes and mystical incidences which ably gives you goosebumps. Baba's teachings become not only Jai's anchor but also teach us, readers, much. ⁣ ⁣ The only glitch I feel was the execution of the story could have been better Initially getting into the story felt like unsteady as the story kept oscillating between the characters. Another thing I faced was the many characters author introduces back to back. Keeping up with them was a task for me. But despite these hiccups the author has done a fine job presenting a spiritual fiction you can pick up for a leisure read. ⁣ ⁣ Overall, this book is meant for philosophy lovers and spiritual seekers. ⁣ –⁣ Q o t d – What do you do to keep yourself calm?⁣ –⁣ #spiritualjourney⁣ #spiritualgrowth #spirituality #spiritualbooks #philosophy #philosophyoflife #philosophicalbooks #booksonphilosophy #happylife #successmantra

9. ‎What hurdles did you face while publishing the book?

Being a first time writer, I did experience issues related to credibility and the consequences of the same. However, having been in the know of such issues, I did develop the ability to factor the same as part of the process of writing and publishing.

10. Where did the insight for crafting your characters? Any particular actor or actress you kept in your thoughts while sketching the characters?

As explained earlier, the characters were significantly based on those I had come in close touch with in my growing up years. I did not have any other personalities/celebrities in mind while developing them and their role in my story.

11. Just for fun, if this book was to be made into a movie, who would be the director and who would you want to be the lead star casts.

Book into a movie!

I do not think I have the stature of expecting someone to seek my story for a movie script! Thanks for the thought. You made my day!
