Before I move on with my review, heed this – this book is a hazy horizon where facts meet fiction (in the words of the author). Author Avinash Chikte, a fighter pilot with IAF has laid down a thrilling page turner with his book Man behind the missing machine.

I usually don’t read blurbs. I like books to surprise me. And going by the name of this book, I presumed it to be a sci-fi. Few pages into it and I realize this one is a political drama. An unputdownable read.

The book follows the story of a missing airline. The airline went off the radar without any cues. But a mqn, a Sardar, alighted the plane just before it took off citing a medical emergency in his family. Is there a relation between the missing flight and this Sardar who got off the plan. Was he a terrorist who staged this act? When no one comes forth to claim the responsibility, the onus of finding the culprit falls on the shoulders of National Intelligence Agency. KK is the man who will save the day. But he has no leads in this case except a picture of the man who got off the plane. How will he nab this terrorist and will he nab this terrorist at all, forms the rest of the story.

It is quite intriguing the way this plot has been woven. It meanders in the dark alleys, comes back only to bring more twists in the tale. The story and the execution kept me glued to the book. The mystery was kept alive till the last page. The author peppered the story will filmy drama and some romance making it all the more appealing. But the fact is that this book shows rigorous lifestyle of NIA, Army, Navy and Airforce without overtly dramatizing it. Every aspect of this book is tied together well making it a must read.

Overall, you find politics, drama, thrill, adventure and a lot of action. And I can’t recommend it enough.
