Book- Unlock your storybook heart by Amanda Lovelace
Genre – Poetry
Publisher – Andrews McMeel

Amanda Lovelace needs no introduction. If you have read her work you know she will only deliver best. She does so again with her book Unlock your storybook heart.

I received an ARC for this book from publisher Andrews Mcmeel and Netgalley. It was such a pleasure listening to the poetess. Her narration had a lilt to it. A beautiful ring. Empowering, even. The words pierced my heart, hurt me but still made me feel strong and complete. This book felt like a tiny glow in the darkest hours. It was so assertive and powerful. And delivered with so much conviction!

Though the book is a part of a series you can read it as a standalone. The book is inspired by a few classic tales, prominently The beauty and the beast, informs the poetess. As a trigger warning, the poetess says that the themes of the poems revolves around trauma, mental illness, eating disorder, sexism, queer phobia, self harm, to name a few. And she asks us to practice self-care post reading it.

In my opinion, however, this book is a part of the much needed self-care. It tells you exactly where to look for love, and that’s solely within.

“Treat yourself with gentleness, lovely.”
